Two babies. One studio. Zero stress on your end. If you just found out you’re expecting twins, or you’ve recently welcomed your girls and you’re trying to figure out how to make a newborn session work with two tiny humans, you’re in the right place. Twin newborn sessions are some of my absolute favorites, and I want to walk you through exactly what to expect so you can show up feeling calm, ready, and excited.

When a Session Feels Like a Reunion

This particular twin session was extra special to me because it was my fifth time photographing this family. Being the one they called when they found out they were pregnant with twins reminds me why I do this work.

Twin newborn sessions have their own rhythm. There’s a little more patience involved, a little more flexibility in the schedule, and a whole lot of sweetness. My job is to hold the space so you don’t have to manage every detail. You get to soak in this season.

What’s Included in Your Twin Newborn Studio Session

One thing I hear from moms all the time is that they’re already stretched thin. The last thing you need is a long shopping list before your session.

Here’s what’s already waiting for you at the studio:

  • A full studio wardrobe of women’s dresses from XS – 3XL
  • Children’s clothing up to size 5T
  • Newborn wraps and headbands

You bring the babies. I handle the rest.

How to Prep for Your Twin Newborn Session

These tips come straight from experience, both as a newborn photographer and as a mom who knows that mornings with babies are rarely simple.

Before You Leave the House

Feed both babies before you head to the studio. Full babies are sleepy babies, and sleepy babies photograph beautifully.

Bath them that morning. This is one of my favorite tricks. A warm bath genuinely tires newborns out in the best possible way.

Dress them in snap rompers that don’t need to be pulled over their heads. If they fall asleep in the car on the way over, I want to keep that sleep going as long as possible for the first part of the session.

Who Should Come With You

All immediate family members are included in the session. Grandparents are welcome too! They can be an extra set of hands, or they can jump in front of the camera for a few photos too. More hands during a twin session is always a good thing.

What You Do Not Need to Stress About

A perfect morning. A perfect baby. Or two perfect babies, for that matter.

I have seen it all, and I have all the patience in the world. If one baby needs to eat mid-session again, we pause. If someone has a blowout (it happens, it really does), we laugh, and we move on. Your only job is to get here. I’ll take it from there.

Why Twin Newborn Photos Are Worth Prioritizing Right Now

I know you’re running on very little sleep. I know your to-do list is long. And it can feel like photos are something you can put off.

But these early weeks go so fast. I’ve watched it happen with my own kids, and it still catches me off guard. Twin girls at this exact size, this exact age, curled up together, won’t exist again. These photos aren’t just sweet to look at now. They’re the heirloom your kids will hold onto decades from now.

Families across the Indianapolis area are booking their newborn sessions in their 2nd trimester, before the baby comes. The sooner you reach out, the better, especially for twins, when your schedule is already beautifully chaotic.
