Being a new mom can be both joyous and overwhelming at the same time. Nursing a baby is one of the most challenging tasks for a new mother. As a mom of two, I’m passionate about breastfeeding my babies. However, the nursing journey with my firstborn was extremely challenging at first. I faced supply issues, triple feeding, multiple visits to a lactation consultant, clogged ducts, and mastitis, but I overcame the struggles and went on to breastfeed him for 20 months! The products below helped during these tough times. This blog will discuss the nursing essentials for new moms.
Top 8 Nursing Essentials for New Moms
Congratulations, new mom! As you transition into your role as a mother, having all the nursing essentials on hand can make your life much easier postpartum. That’s why we’ve compiled a list of the top 8 nursing essentials for new moms. From nursing bras to nipple cream, these items will help make breastfeeding a breeze. With these must-haves in your arsenal, you’ll be on your way to a successful nursing journey. Shop all my essentials here on Amazon.
Nursing Bra
The primary essential item for nursing moms is a nursing bra. Choose a bra that fits you well and provides you with good support. Look for bras that have adjustable straps and are comfortable for long hours. These are inexpensive on Amazon. It’s a bit more expensive, but the bras from here are fabulous, especially for those moms who nurse and pump. The bra can work for both – no annoying changing out bras during the day.
Nursing pads
Leaking breasts are expected during the first few months of breastfeeding. Nursing pads can help avoid embarrassing situations or wet spots on your clothes. I like these washable, reusable nursing pads.
Breast pump
A breast pump is necessary for moms who express milk for their babies. It allows you to collect and store milk to feed your baby later. I recommend the Spectra Gold Portable or Spectra S1. I’ve used both, and they are great at emptying the breast. Also, I’ve used the Elvie, which is excellent for on-the-go pumping, but I’ve found it doesn’t empty my breasts like a Spectra.

Nursing Pillow
This cozy accessory is designed to help you and your little one stay comfortable while feeding. With its soft cushioning and wrap-around design, you won’t have to worry about any arm, neck, or back strain. Plus, it’s versatile enough to be helpful in other parts of your baby’s life. Whether you use it as a tummy time tool, a comfy spot for your baby to lounge, or a cushion while you rock your little one to sleep, the nursing pillow is a must for any new mom.
LACTATION MASSAGER
Struggling with milk flow and blocked ducts as a breastfeeding mom? The Lavie lactation massager is a total game-changer! This incredible tool stimulates milk flow, reduces pain and swelling, and keeps your milk ducts flowing freely. Trust me, it’s an absolute must-have for all pumping moms. And don’t forget to check out their warming lactation massagers, too – they’re a lifesaver when you need to pump out more milk. Give them a try, and thank me later!

organic Nipple Cream
Breastfeeding can be painful, especially during the initial days when your baby is learning to nurse correctly. Nipple creams can be used to soothe sore and cracked nipples. Look for safe creams for your baby and can be applied easily. This one got me through very cracked nipples when my second born was in the newborn feeding stage.
Nursing Cover
Nursing covers are a convenient way to nurse your baby in public without feeling uncomfortable or exposed. They come in various styles and designs, so choose one that suits your style. This is a popular one.
PUMPING SPRAY
Pumping spray is a lifesaver! Whether exclusively pumping or just aiming to stock up, it works wonders by lubricating the flanges for maximum pumping comfort. Trust me, it’s an absolute must-have for all exclusive pumping moms. I use this one and highly recommend it.
