Hey there, mom-to-be! Congratulations on the fantastic journey you are on! As an Indianapolis maternity photographer and fitness instructor of over 15 years, I understand the importance of taking care of yourself during this time, both physically and mentally. One fantastic way to do this is through Indianapolis prenatal yoga. It is a great way to stay active and helps you connect with your growing baby and prepare for labor.
The Benefits of Prenatal Yoga
Prenatal yoga is a valuable practice for expectant mothers that can provide numerous benefits beyond physical exercise. Studies have shown that practicing yoga during pregnancy can help reduce anxiety, improve sleep, and promote healthy weight gain throughout pregnancy. Also, it can help soothe general discomforts, increases oxygen uptake, and reduces blood pressure. Yoga practice also teaches deep breathing techniques that can be utilized during labor and delivery to help manage pain and encourage relaxation.
Furthermore, prenatal yoga classes help to strengthen the pelvic floor muscles, which can help prepare the pregnant body for childbirth. As an Indianapolis maternity photographer, I highly recommend prenatal yoga to my clients as it benefits their physical and emotional well-being while the baby grows. Also, it contributes to a healthier pregnancy and potentially easier delivery. Give it a try and see the benefits for yourself!

Where to Find the Best Prenatal Yoga Classes
If you are located around Indianapolis, you are in luck! Some incredible places in the area offer prenatal yoga classes for expectant mothers. Here are the top studios that I recommend:
Invoke Studio – Indianapolis
Invoke Studio has two locations: one located downtown and the other located further north at 86th and Ditch. Invoke Studio is a popular destination for prenatal yoga classes. Their instructors have years of experience and are trained to work with pregnant women. Also, they offer a postnatal class on Wednesdays, which is hard to come by. Can’t make it in person? They offer classes streamed live and on demand.

Blooming Life Yoga – Zionsville
Blooming Life Yoga offers yoga and pilates classes in the heart of Zionsville. They do not have a particular prenatal class but offer a “gentle flow + yin” class perfect for expectant mothers and experienced yoginis alike. The instructors there are incredibly knowledgeable and will carefully guide you through each pose and meditative practice. Also, they offer online classes where you can join through live stream (fellow moms of toddlers, this is a great perk)!

Fire and Flow Carmel (Previously Baptiste Power Yoga)
Have you tried Baptiste Power Yoga yet? It’s a unique and stimulating form of yoga practice that includes breath synchronized movements for a full-body workout. And lucky for you, there’s a studio right here in Carmel, Indiana. Whether you’re a seasoned yogi or just starting, their yoga teachers will guide you through the practice with expert instruction and support. And if you’re expecting, they offer many non-heated classes such as “Heart and Hips,” which is excellent for expectant mothers holding lots of tension in the hips while pregnant.

Honor Yoga – Fishers
If you’re looking to cultivate balance and strength, both physically and mentally, then a visit to Honor Yoga in Fishers, Indiana, is definitely worth considering. They don’t offer a prenatal yoga class, but you’ll find some excellent types here. Honor Yoga welcomes all levels and abilities, whether you’re a seasoned yogi or new to the practice. The instructors are friendly and supportive, making it a comfortable environment to explore your practice. The studio has calming decor and a lovely atmosphere, making it a great place to unwind and find inner peace.

Other Local Yoga Studios:
In my search, I found many excellent local studios that currently do not offer prenatal-specific classes. However, they do offer classes that expectant mothers can benefit from. When looking at your local studio’s class schedule, try to find a yin yoga, slow flow, or restorative class. Always let the yoga instructor know you’re pregnant so they are offering modifications. Guided meditation and light stretching classes are great for different stages of pregnancy as the baby grows. Avoid hot classes while pregnant, as they may be too strenuous (unless OK-d by your doctor). For busy moms, sometimes the studio closest to you is the best fit for you!
